I'm about to take the plunge with a 1998 Avant which has done 75k with full main dealer history. It's a 2.4SE Auto with full leather and I've managed to speak to the previous owner who has confirmed the mileage and the history.
I haven't test driven it yet as it was stuck at the front of the dealers showroom with too many cars to get out of it's way quickly, so I'm driving it for the first time at the weekend. We started it and it fired up easily and ran smoothly. I moved the lever through the box and there was quite a clonk when it went into reverse. It didn't seem to be taking up any mechanical slack in the drive train, just a bit noisy as it went into gear. Obviously it was cold and the engine was only running for about 2 minutes. Any ideas what could cause this.
Also any other areas to look for with this model/engine/box variant.
