Just replaced the rears on the Audi, both show greater wear on the outside 1/2 of the tread (1-1.5mm difference across the width) - I am guessing it's an effect of rear toe-in (no apparent camber issues), but has anyone else seen this?

Yep - I had exactly the same on my 03 1.8T. The outside quarter bald and the rest showing loads of life. Mentioned it to the dealer - "they all do that".

Now swopping front to rear every time I get the balancing done which currently is every couple of months, but that's another story...

Edited to add - my previous car, a Rover 75, did exactly the same. Also well known for it.

I had the opposite - inside worn on the front of my A3 after only 10,000 miles, the dealer said 'they all do that sir, we call it Quattro scrub' but they checked/altered the wheel alignment for me....

I also suffered extreme wear on the 1st inside fronts of my A3 Quattro, set up was apparently fine will see how the next ones last.

Brother inlaw has an A4 estate which also suffered from inside front wear on it's 1st set.
