Yes my head is spinning thinking about the various options for this car. Should I go for...

A) Plain old 2.0TDI GT - 3door. Nicer that 5 door in my book. Cheapest of the 3 here.

B) 2.0TDI GT 4Motion - 3door. For wet weather traction, safe cornering fun, a nice badge on the back of the car and the twin exhaust which isn't standard on the others.

C) 2.0TDI GT DSG - 5door. I love the thought of this gearbox :lick: but why only 5 door (unless I'm reading the website wrong).

I'm expecting the DSG to be quickest on the move and I'll be test driving one shortly. I'd also expect the 4 Motion to be best from a standing start with it's semi 4x4 however VW seem to state the same 0-60 for all three derivatives. In addition to this would the 4x4 actually weigh it down in comparison to the others and hence slow it down once it's going.

All of this is speculation on my part. I'd welcome real like experiences of these cars and any 'real' performance comparisons.

Thanks all...

2.0TDI GT DSG - 5door

sorry-is this in 4 motion (god do I hate that) then only worth it if its 4 motion (GRRR) AND chipped-that would be "NICE"
IMO of course (you know you want to really  )

Depends what you want. I work for a VW dealer and all cars you mention have their merits. To be honest I would go for a standard GT TDI 140 if you want value for money. I currently run a 2.0 GT FSI 4 MOTION and yes, it looks great with the extra exhausts but is that really worth paying the extra for? The traction control system on the MK5 is pretty amazing to be honest and you can fling it into a bend/round a roundabout and let it do the work for you - a 4 Motion in reality won't give you much more. We have an 05/05 demo which has come up for sale which is a GT TDI DSG - let me know if you want a deal on that - that will offer you good value for money if you want the DSG route.
