My 2.0 bitdi crafter/tge is getting ready to die, high oil consumption, scored bores, low compression, the usual par for the course for these. The turbos are getting a bit tired, and it could probably do with new injectors.
The problem is i dont know what i would change it for. I have the back decked out exactly the way I want, this van has an unusual spec theat would be more double what this cost me when i bought it new pre covid.
Sprinters, transits etc dont appeal to me, been trying them out.
I am at a crossroads. I am looking for more torque and better reliability. I love my van and want to keep it a good while longer and either of the below look better value than swapping it for something I dont want.
1. Fit a 3.0tdi engine and gearbox. A lot of work with a few interesting challenges to solve, but end result would be exactly what I originally wanted to buy in the first place. This is difficult as mine is fwdand has a differend floorpan to the rwd and 4wd models so quattro isnt an option.
2. Try to address the shortcomings of the bitdi engine.
From some research that might be: .5 oversize rebore, mahle pistons, new bottom end bearings, new injectors, uprated single turbo, or the darkside hybrid twin turbo and charge cooler upgrade, replace low pressure wet belt driven oil pump with the chain driven higher pressure upgraded unit available now, egr is already deleted, it is the egr on these that cause the bore score.
That leaves the weak crankshaft oil seal. Mine has had 4 in 140k miles. My previous 2018 van had 2 before it caught fire. Any upgrades on those available yet?

Has anyone on here any experience trying to upgrade the reliability on the 2.0 bitdi?
