Through various happenstances, I find myself in possession of one rather tired Mk1 1.8 Golf GTI and a Mk2 16V Golf GTI, both in need of work in various ways.
Now I could just tidy them up as they are and sell them on as original, unmolested examples of a classic hot hatch.
On the other hand, I could drop the valver engine into the Mk1, a 1.8T into the Mk2, replace the rather tired suspension on both with adjustable aftermarket kit, and, and, the list goes on...
As for what I want to do with them, I'll probably sell one straight away and maybe keep the other for a while for track use and the odd b-road blat. But either way, I think my decision as to what to do to it is more to be based on resale.
What say the VW gurus?

If that is really important, then sell both as standard.
Its not cheap to do serious modifications on the car & if the Mk1 is a nice example it will be worth less if not original.
You can do lots of bits to the Mk2 to make it an annimal, but unless you do all the work yourself & are very very lucky with purchaces its not gunna get your investment back come re-sale time.
