Hi.
My 1999 S4 Avant 2.7 Bi-turbo is a car I've just spent a fortune on making "right".
£500 on tyres. £1500 in the Audi dealer workshop. Another £200 on Pagid black stuff front pads, and also £1300 on paintwork to make it look pretty again. Also another £300 roughly on a new retractable luggage retention net, new Sat Nav disc, new N75 boost control valves etc. So I need to get my money's worth out of it now!
However, now I've got a problem with the factory fitted Sat Nav.
This is the Navigation plus system with the 5" colour screen. My car also has TV reception and a 6 CD changer in the boot side compartment.
Frequently the Nav system thinks I am about 2 - 4 miles away from my current location, and due to my home address this means in the middle of the Solway Firth! I know S4s are reasonable in the wet, but that's just not possible! If I do a "manual location" then for a while it knows the location. Sometimes I can correlate more "spirited" driving with the Sat Nav losing the location.
Also, another problem which maybe completely separate is that when I recently bought a new 2005 CD from my local Audi dealer for the system (tele atlas DX for Blaupunkt Travelpilot or Audi Navigation plus > Dec. 1999, the new disc will not work in the machine.
Does anyone have any experience of similar problems with this system and can help me track down the cure?

Re the DX disc not working, are you sure your system is DX capable? On the TT for example, the systems were not upgraded to DX till late 2000 I think - and I know a DX disc will not work in a pre-DX system.

Hi there.
Problem solved - the unit was not receiving GPS info, so I replaced the GPS and radio / TV / telephone antenna on the rear of the roof - £111.89 + vat for part and 30 mins to fit.
Very easy job.
Turns out the disc was not meant to be DX - Clive was correct.
Non DX disc worked instantly - amazing how many new roads and other details are on it compared to the old 1999 disc!
