I seem to recall there was a conversation thread on here regading the 1.6 TDI eninge life. It should never have been described as a Sport. Adding a sporty steering wheels and shoulder boulstered seats doesn't make it a sports hatch. However with rgard to the engine my A3 has just clicked over 180,000 miles. Tts been regularly serviced and had the required timing belt changes. Apart from the inevitable water pump failure is has run faultlessly since I have owned it,putting 50K of those miles on it myself. Still starts on the button, runs smooth and is giving me a real world 64 mpg on my daily commute.

Most VAG group diesels are reliable and have strong internals capable of mega miles if looked after. The 1.6tdi can also be found in commercial vans so it has proved itself capable of taking some abuse.

Maintenance is key, as you have done on your own, you'll probably find other components of the car let you down before the engine if you keep up the maintenance regime.

"Sport" is just trim name. It used to be called "SE" but Audi felt "Sport" was more marketable. None are sports cars, even the S-Line isn't sports, personally i'd prefer the SE/Sport spec over S-Line for my daily car and have a proper sports car in the garage instead.
