Boring thread maybe, but really impressed with this as a do everything car with 7 seats. Replaces a 40d X5 - I don't think I'll ever have another diesel.

They are rather good aren’t they. Very practical when you have kids, dog, old folk etc to car around.
The petrol vs diesel debate is a tricky one on the q7. I’ve driven both and thought the 50tdi better suited to the car than the 55tfsi. It felt faster due to the torque and it’s clearly more economical. However the petrol doesn’t suffer from diesel related issues and short journeys, so I suspect for most families the petrol is the better option.

Glad to see some recognition for the Q7 4M. We have an early 3.0 TDI SE, bought as an approved used Audi with about 33k on the clock, now approaching 100k. It really is the consummate family work horse. The 3 litre diesel is such a ubiquitous engine in so many German cars, but the torque and refinement (above idle at least) are just so well suited to this kind of vehicle. Even with a large roof-box on top, and the car loaded to the gunnels, it's showing c.33-34 mpg on a long run down through France. Incredibly satisfying to see a range of 600 miles on the screen when you fill up too. Apart from the practicality, it's the refinement which I think is its strongest suite. Just a very relaxing place to do lot's of miles in. Even seats 6 and 7 in the third row don't get many complaints from teenage kids when we are taking grandparents around. Air suspension stays mostly in 'dynamic' as the ride is very reasonable even in that more sporting setting. Being able to raise the car to get over big humps, or lower the boot to put heavy things in have been useful features too. My only major criticisms would be the slow witted gearbox in standard mode (fine in sport), fairly lifeless steering, and poor standard sound system (our car is heavily optioned, but no Bose for some reason). That said, the steering is light and the car goes where pointed which is probably all one can reasonably expect from a large SUV. Being a metallic grey SE on 19 inch wheels, it's pretty low profile for a large SUV too. I occasionally lust after a used SQ7, but I really enjoy treating the car as a work horse, not caring what the kids or the dog do to it, and that definitely wouldn't be the case with an SQ7. I'm looking forward to swapping onto winter tyres soon and then heading south over Christmas. Nothing like a long European journey, fully loaded, to show the car off to its best abilities.
