I downsized a fleet including a track toy to buy a current Model Cayman three years ago and feel like a change.

I don’t need another £50k car and was toying with the idea of an S5 cabriolet as I had a new S4 B8.5 saloon back in 2014 and the engine impressed me.

So what are they like as a second car and occasional euro trip mule?
test drove an RS4 Cabriolet back in 2013 and that either had a problem, or they all flex.

I also daily a modded RSQ3 so I don’t need a hard top, hence the soft top question.

Think fast, quality cruiser and you're about right. Not as wafty or soft as a full size convertible, but usefully more chilled and refined than a little one. Dynamically they're fairly good and don't feel out of their depth on a B road.

Scuttle shake is nowhere near as pronounced as the old chassis. I've never found it to be to a level that's annoying. The B7 RS4 convertible was awful for this, that car worked much better as the softer S4.

Not the same engine (or gearbox) as in your B8, but no less impressive.

Find one with decent specification and they're very nice cars.

I have a 2013 B8.5 with the 3.0 supercharged engine. Decent wafter, pretty comfy and very configurable. Mine has the biggest factory wheel option and the scuttle shake certainly shows itself through the steering column, rear view mirror etc. it's not terrible but it is present.

Mine has a mild remap to wake it up, which was a much needed mod.

I've not really gelled with it tbh. I prefer something with a sharper front end, but it's a nice car to pootle around in at 7/10ths.

Even more so for B9 than B8, but if you can find one equipped with Dynamic steering and Damper control the front end is considerably more darty. They're really very sweet to drive.
