Audi TT 2.0TFSI engine codes
Discussion
Hello All.......
I'm hoping that someone can help me out with a question regarding when the MK2 TT 2.0 TSFI changed engines from the earlier EA113 version to the later EA888 design?
I think the MK2 8J was introduced with the 197bhp EA113 and then moved to the 208 bhp EA888 at some point during the 2009 model year but I'm not sure. There is a lot of conflicting information about.
I'm thinking of buying a MK2 at as a 'toy' to have some fun in ( My daily is a BMW 640D GC ). The 640 is great for mile crunching but not the kind of thing to make you want to take the linger twistier way home.
Anyway........over to you guys. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help with the question.

If you put the reg into Darkside’s website, it will tell you the 4 digit engine code and the 3 digit gearbox code.
ETA, they’re on gen 5 now iirc of the ea888, each one of those generations has a few different 4 digit version code.
Not sure if there are any actual differences though, maybe Dr G could shed some light?

On the 2009-2010 first era EA888 TSI engines from the Golf GTI etc there was a bit of an issue with the cam chain tensioner system. An upgraded part was used from 2010 onwards (couldn't tell you the exact month) Edited by Dave. on Saturday 24th August 13:19
Since the engines are now heading towards 15 years old there will be many early engines that have had the updated chain tensioner setup installed making them less of a concern. There is an inspection hole which can be viewed from under the car to verify which tensioner setup is installed.
My understanding is that the bulk of the specific TSI EA888 engine issues which upset a lot of people and led to many arguing the EA113 engine as used in the mk5 Golf GTI is the better engine were experienced by AMERICAN market owners who had the CCTA or CBFA engine codes.
We never had those in Europe , I'm pretty sure that the mk2 Audi TT came with the 197hp CAWB/CCZA in pre 2009 vehicles and then the 211hp CAEA
MK2 is a funny era with a mixture of engines.
TT = Standard issue K03 EA888 Gen 1 engine (the worst one)
TTS = EA113 CDL K04 based engine (the best EA113)
TTRS = The iron block 5 pot.
TT V6 = BUB derived engine from the MK5 Golf R32.
MK3 is all Gen 2 and Gen 3 EA888 and aluminium block 5 pot, and iirc, the V6 was dropped.
