Audi Q5 Potential Purchase
Discussion
Currently in the process of selling my SEAT Ateca FR Sport 1.5 petrol as I have been fancying an Audi Q5 for a while. Would be looking at post 2021 facelift models, but I can't decide whether petrol or diesel. Since the VAG diesel gate scandal I have avoided diesel like the plague (last 5 cars have been 1.5TSI's) but I feel that it is better suited to the Q5 than petrol. I have driven a lot of Q5's and the fuel consumption of the petrol ones is alway poor IMO, I recently collected a 73 plate Q5 petrol hybrid from Manchester and drove the 200 miles home at a sensible 70/72 mph and just about managed 39.8 mpg, whereas if it had been a 2.0ltr diesel on the same journey it would have been very near 60 mpg. I also feel the characteristics of the diesel engine suits an SUV type of vehicle better than petrol. However, there is something in my head telling me that buying a diesel engined vehicle in 2024 is the wrong thing to be doing. Any thoughts and advice please ............?
I had a 2020 2.0 TDi Q5. 190 hp. I live (S Scotland) rurally, fairly open uncongested roads averaged overall 44mpg according to the computer.
On a regular free flowing 55m drive to Stranraer it would average 51mpg according to the computer.
Trips from here to Lincoln or Leicester ( I did a few) the trip would show around 50mpg.They were during work time so driving steady.
Your figures seem massively optimistic.
It was a lovely car.

My son has a Q5 with the 2.0tfsi 45 engine and it's actually not bad on fuel, better than the 1.5 if you're making it work hard .
I can get high 30's in it at it's best and can get low 40's in my 2.0 TDI at it's worst, really not a huge difference if you're looking for an excuse to buy a petrol.
