Does anyone have any recommendations for R8 servicing in the Reading area? I'm really fed up with main dealers now, can't book in for 6 weeks, two day service times and sky high prices (I also hate the new central booking systems, they have no clue about the cars they're booking in so you get different answers from different call centers).

I've obviously used Google and have used Mill Road in the (distant) past for Skoda vRS's but would like some up to date recommendations based on good (or bad) experiences.

Thanks!

Renn Automotive in Iver do all of my work.

The Phirm in Camberley is well liked/respected also.

Thanks! I looked at Renn but think they're a bit far from me. The Phirm I hadn't heard of.

Renn is a 10 minute walk from Iver station (Elizabeth line) if that's an option, but I've not a bad word to say about the Phirm.

They're good guys, and when you pull up you will see your car is in reassuring company.

I’ve used these a few times, near the M40 roundabout High Wycombe.

I’d recommend, they did a loan car too..

2 places I’m planning on trying for my B7 RS4

- Hoffmans in Henley. Had a chat with the owner, really liked him and they have a few ex Audi techs

- MDM Technik between Henley and Marlow. Seem to deal with a lot of RS cars.

Not used either of them yet mind

I've never used him and he's not cheap, but RE Performance seems to have a good rep for R8's and Lambos in Swindon.

I'm sure Dialynx 'round the corner' might have something to say about that, REPerformance started 2018, Dialynx started in 1994 so have many more years Audi experience.

Having Audi experience and being an R8 specialist are two different things. REPerformance outsell the entire UK Audi network for R8 servicing parts. Not disrespecting Dialynx in any way and if I had a Quattro I’d be straight there, but I’m pretty confident Keith would recognise Ricky’s knowledge and position in the R8 market.

That's an odd statement. There's about 130 franchise dealers in the UK.

Pretty impressive isn’t it.. he works on more R8’s than all of them combined! He mentioned it in a recent video after Audi UK confirmed it to him.

It's more than impressive if true, but it doesn't add up.

Say each Audi dealer services just one R8 per month (the actual number is of course a lot higher). Does RE Performance service 130+?

Would absolutely beleive it if the claim was more R8 services in a month than any one main dealer, but given that they're (almost) a single-model specialist that isn't surprising. I know Ricky and co. are busy, but to service more R8s that a network of 130 other garages would require a lot more space and staff than they have!

I think it's more about servicing used R8's. Yes, you might take it to Audi whilst still under warranty but outside that, and there seem to be a lot of used ones and they can end up costing a lot of money to maintain, specially when the prices dropped into the arena of 'I can just about afford it, but not the maintenance and repair bills' I can't imagine every dealership has a senior tech that focusses on just R8s given volumes. It would make more sense if you can, to take to a specialist who can repair, rather than replace. Ricky did one on an ECU/injector problem where he took a[part the ECY and pin diagnosed on a a scope - I can guarantee Audi wont do that. That's where the volumes come from.

Jobs like that don't bring volume. They tie up a ramp for ages and often stop you doing the day to day jobs.

Something is being misquoted there.

I realise my commentary comes across as sounding quite negative, it's not intended to be. Ricky is a very talented engineer and whilst I've only had cause to speak to him a couple of times (mutual customers) he has always given me the time of day. I will however be flabbergasted if a single (6 ramp?) workshop buys more R8 service parts than 130 franchise dealers combined.

I’m dropping mine down there in a couple of weeks - I’ll get them to confirm the exact quote!
