Huge cost of DSG gearbox repair on VW Polo

Hi all, I have a 2012 VW Polo Match and broke down today, I was told the DSG gearbox repair would cost £2500. (2 new clutches required).

I cannot believe the high cost. Is it worth me shopping around? I have an awful feeling it will cost the same everywhere. I was also told very few garages will fix a DSG gearbox. So my options seem limited,

Can't really offer much help, sorry.

A friend of mine had a Polo GTi which suffered the same and he just got rid as it wasn't an economical repair for him.

I just spent £9k on having a gearbox fixed. I would have been very happy if it had been £2.5k.

Not a comparable car, but gearbox work has never been cheap.

I think it's unlikely you'll get much off that, is it the 1.4? Regardless of engine for both packs the parts are going to be about a grand plus labour plus vat. It's just what they cost.

Yes its a 1.4.

I have told the garage to go ahead with the repair. He said I would have to pay half the cost upfront. Which I suppose is fair.
