Hi all

I’ve got a 2022 RS3 8Y Sportback which I got new that for various reasons has done the measly total of 600 miles. Each time I drive it my ears are drawn to a distinctly mechanical noise from the transmission. It’s not a whine and is only noticeable at low speeds due to the noise. The best way I can describe the noise is that it’s similar to when brake discs have surface rust on them.

It’s due for a service next month and I’ve asked it to be investigated but am slightly nervous that I’m either chasing a phantom issue which could be a new car bedding in, or an expensive issue which hasn’t fully presented itself because the car has hardly done any miles. It’s out of warranty next year so would rather get it sorted now. I’ve had Quattro Audis before and haven’t heard this noise before. My daily driver is a poverty spec Hilux too so am used to rudimentary 4x4s.

With the limited miles driven, maybe one of the rear brake disks is binding?
Take the car for a drive, then check to see in the disk or wheel are hot to touch.

I also have a 2022 RS3 sportback 10kmls does yours do this all the time, mine makes a similar low speed noise like a faint woosh seems to be only when passing obstacles, parked cars narrow roads etc. I just put it down to the pre-sense getting ready to brake don't get the pre-sense warning though.

Depending how concerned you are it might be an idea to do a diy fluid change and catch all the used fluid in a spotlessly clean container and send it for analysis, especially if its a keeper long afyer warranty it cant hurt removing all the manufactring residue long before the first scheduled change.
The dealer is financially incentivised not to notice these potential looming problems until the warranty is finished, so i wouldn't rely on their opinion.
