I've got fairly newish P Zero R02s on the front - they have a very pronounced sidewall/rim protection. I just can't find the rears in R02 format, only R01 - any idea why? My rears are 295/30 ZR19 P Zero. I rather want them to match visually.

I don't know exact age or model of your car, but it doesn't appear they're available as a 295 or 305; R8 fronts are a very common size by comparison (used on numerous other Audis) so come in different patterns/compounds.

I personally would be tempted to move away from the Pirellis, then match the fronts up when next required.

Don’t know where you’re based but just had a good experience at the Burton one of these -

https://www.pirelli.com/tyres/en-gb/car/about-us/p...

It was less of a tyre fitters, more like a car tyre themed laboratory.

If they can’t source them, they surely don’t exist?

From what I can see this is the case. The front tyres OP has currently whilst Audi-marked will be intended for an S3 or similar.

Yeah it turns out I put the writing fronts on. Should have been R01 not R02

Will try PS4 s on the back.

Amusingly I've just been offered for sale an R8 with 02s on front and 01s on back.

02s list slightly cheaper so I can see why someone would pick them (unless looking very closely).

I have this combo on my R8 - no issues.

I think you'd need to be a far better driver than I (and going very much faster) to feel whatever minute difference there may be.

Totally see the appeal of their matching visually mind you.

That was the whole point - you are correct - aesthetics. They all cost pretty much the same.

I've got the back out several times on motorway roundabouts and its a non event that I don't think has much to do with the tyres - more the traction control. You can feel a slight deadness in the throttle as it gathers itself back up again :-)

Amusing, but the P-Zero on those is a bit crap by modern standards.

Yeah - read that. It's just what it came with and the official Audi recommendation (or one of), so that's what I bought when replacing the fronts.

TBF - you could fit chinese remoulds on it and she'd still grip like st to a blanket within the bounds of road driving.

I bought a super low miles one a couple of years ago that had rock hard, perished ~10 year old Continentals on. Obviously spent a lot of time sitting.

It did not grip like s*** on a blanket, but did have handling characteristics liable to make me deposit s*** on a blanket (had I been wearing one instead of pants).
