Family members car so I’m not able to get there with a code reader at the moment.

Common VAG gear selector switch issue normally. Dealers will try to charge £££

I think there are several YouTube clips on a cheaper fix if you fancy doing it yourself.

Well they won't work for free, and main-dealer labour rates are high...

...but VW supply a repair kit so the cost isn't silly. No need to replace the selector.

Does anyone know if this issue is specific to the DSG transmission only?
I have a 2017 MK7 1.8 auto 'Sportwagen' and it's a 'traditional' automatic gearbox. (This is a US spec car though)

I didn’t even know you could get a traditional auto in the mk7 golf!!

Had this issue on my mk7, was a relatively easy fix with the right piggy-back kit and a YouTube tutorial

I'd no idea such a thing existed!

Yeah I guess it's possible they use the same or related selector.
