Buying an 80 Quattro
Discussion
Hi Chaps,
Haven't posted in the Audi forum before but I'm a regular in the Tiv forums. So hello all!!
Unfortunately, the time has come to think about selling the TVR and getting a semi-practical car (which is pretty much anything compared to the TVR)
A few years ago I had an old D-reg 80 sport which I loved. Also I had an 8 valve Golf GTi, I believe they both share the same engine, anyhow, both where amazingly reliable cars and served me well.
So my thoughts are towards Audi again now, being that my last one was so good. I do alot of miles, most are motorway, but I do enjoy a good blast round the country roads in Wales!
I've been thinking about an 80 Quattro 2.8 (1993ish), They seem to go for between £1500 and £3000.
Just the general questions really.....
- I'd imagine they're not amazing on fuel consumpsion but how good or bad is it??
- Anything to look out for when buying?? Does the 4 wheels drive system have any common problems??
- What kind of insurance wil I be looking at? I pay about £1000 for the TVR at the moment and £450 for a '90 Celica 2.0 16v.
- Anything else?? General comments about the car?
Cheers lads
Dan :)

Not as bad as my old 100 2.8q and that got 25-28 with sensible driving.

Not really, it either tends to be OK or completely shagged without much middle ground. Most common problem is the rear diff lock mechanism stops working, which isn't really a guge problem unless it happens to be locked at the time. Check it can lock and unlock on the button, and that it automatically unlocks at 20kph.
