Loud knocking from engine bay mk6 golf TDI - any ideas?
Discussion
Hi - I’ve just got in my 2010 golf tdi 2.0 and it’s making a loud knocking noise from the engine area. The engine starts and runs fine, no warning lights, with some revs it stops making the noise. But left to idle it starts again.
My local garage can’t look at it until Monday and I’m hoping to try to diy fix it before then if possible. Problem is I don’t know what the cause is yet.
Here’s a quick video https://youtu.be/iHLy9aZtfW4?si=rEtveqDqBNNg-ZZ6 I took - you can hear the noise… if anyone has ideas please let me know. I’m thinking it could be from the belts on the driver side of the engine??
Thanks!

Hi guys - thanks for the replies. Just got back from local Indy - DMF / dual mass flywheel apparently. They’ve proposed to replace the clutch and DMF for £800. Don’t know how this price compares?
They also have said that it’s ok to drive for short journeys this next week until it’s fixed.
