Can someone please explain the engine differences to me across the MK7 range?

I'm curious to know whether they use exactly the same 2.0 engine, with the same internals, or whether they differ slightly. e.g. the TCR is listed as having 286bhp vs the Clubsport (non S) 261bhp. Are these identical engines just with a slightly different tune from factory, or are the internals different?

I also notice many of the below models are regularly mapped into the 400bhp+ range - is this power perfectly safe on stock internals, or only safe across some of the models? I guess this relates to my earlier internals question smile

Golf GTI Performance
Golf GTI Clubsport
Golf GTI Clubsport S
Golf GTI TCR
Golf R

Thanks

GTI-level use IS20 turbo, R-level use IS38 turbo. Minimal other differences, meaning a GTI with an IS38 will map to the same level as an R.

Thanks - do you know if that's also true if the GTI is a Clubsport or TCR? As the other chap above has indicated that these have a bigger turbo than the standard GTI.

Yeah they'll have the bigger turbo. A GTI would map to 300-ish anyway, but there's more headroom in those.
