Just purchased for my wife a 2017 Audi A1 1.4 tfsi S Line S Tronic Euro 6 automatic 48,000 miles. The car is an Audi approved vehicle with full Audi service history, when I enquired if the gearbox had oil had been changed the reply was "as the car is Audi approved with full service history it will have everything done as required by the manufacturer's schedule". When I checked the service history I could not find any evidence of a gearbox oil change, on questioning the Service Manager he advised that according to Audi, the A1 does not require the automatic gearbox oil to be changed as it is "sealed for life". Further questioning revealed that the larger models, A6, Q3, Q5 etc. DO require the automatic gearbox oil to be changed at 38,000.
Does anyone have first hand experience whether this is true and accurate, or should I get my reliable and trustworthy Independent to change the oil anyhow.

Thanks.

What does your service book say? If the dealer is saying it isn't needed they should be happy to put that in writing but isn't Elsawin the gospel on these things?

You could email/phone Audi UK Technical and see what they say or try a different a different dealer.

Maybe Dr G will be able to clarify this?

It happened to me with my A5, bought at 40k miles Audi Approved, I wax told it was serviced only to realise later that the gearbox hadn’t been done. My A5 was at 48k miles by then. After making a fuss, I got it done gratis at a local dealer.

I would E mail Audi direct. I have been doing a similar dance with Skoda UK , probably same gearbox. I finally have Skoda UK saying it needs to be done at 40 k miles , two dealers telling me 80,000.

The six speed had a 40 k oil change specification. The 7 speed has an 80k specification.

7 speed dry clutch is “sealed for life”

Correct on both.

OP send me your chassis number and I'll screenshot the history and schedule from erwin for you. Will tell you if anything is missing.

Dr. G came up with the goods within minutes of me supplying the information he required, for which he has my grateful thanks. PH has some excellent people on here.

Good question this. I have a 2019 T Roc with a 1.5 engine and 7 speed auto which is a dsg.

It's going in to VW for a service in 2 weeks and is just about to reach 40k. I'm thinking that the auto box may need a fluid change at some point and was wondering if I am correct.

No, that will also be the 7 speed dry clutch version that has no scheduled fluid changes.

As I understand it,

6 speed wet clutch - every 40k miles
7 speed wet clutch - every 80k miles ( fitted to higher torque engines)
7 speed dry clutch - no service schedule. ( fitted to lower torque engines)

OK, I've had no problems with the car so that's piece of mind. Thanks

So what was the definitive answer then?

Audi are great at saying “sealed for life” on gearboxes. My RS was like that, despite ZF manufacturing a service kit for it. What they really meant was “sealed until the warranty expires”.

On these its true, they hold something like 1.7 litres - very similar to a manual gearbox

It’s the DQ200 box and they don’t have a service interval.

Unusually, the general opinion on forums, where some people advocate things like annual Haldex oil changes, seems to be to leave it alone.

The answer was that no the gearbox does not require an oil change during it's entire life!
He also confirmed that the car has just had an oil change and filter, new plugs and the brake fluid changed; this brings the Audi history upto date for the car.
None of this had been available to me on the Audi owners portal that they supply as it is different to the official Audi service history; goodness knows why surely this does not need to be a secret.
