Will a USB splitter work on a mk7.5 golf to recognise/run a phone and usb stick at the same time?

I'd use an SD card in the glovebox instead of a 2nd USB device as a workaround.

Yeah, I realised I was asking a silly question as soon as I clicked Submit.

I have been using the spare SD card slot for music but that kept crashing regardless of the slot used. This may reflect the quality of the card rather than the
hardware in the car.

If you're using a microSD card with an adapter, that can often be the problem - the adapters aren't the most reliable thing.

Worth trying a fullsize, name-brand SD card, eg Sandisk

I tried 3 different SD cards all of which worked fine on other applications in my S4 and had numerous problems, normally that the files would corrupt after having loaded them to the card and then wouldn't play.

In the end I bought a new 32gb card and it is fine so, it would seem that not all SD cards are suitable?

I think you've nailed it there. From memory those drives are fussy about the brand of card you use for nav updates too.

Unimportant update......

Reverted to BT Audio from phone and VLC player for the quirk that is Android Auto killing BT.

Too much of a luddite to start getting on with streaming services.
