Looking at Golf GTD that I understand is now discontinued and never to be replaced!! What’s people’s thoughts on these. Will they hold there values well or drop like stones ?? I was thinking of a 6 month old car…come on let’s have some opinions please.

I sat in one today at a car supermarket. Liked the seats and overall style. As a previous mk7 gtd owner the drive train is punchy and economical. I still think I’d go for a late low mile mk7.5 all things considered, especially if your worried about values.

Mrs ubbs had a mk7.5 gtd dsg estate from new for 5 years, never missed a beat to be honest other than routine servicing and consumables, we moved onto the vw all in one service/warranty package which is excellent vfm when it was 3 years old.

They're pretty good cars, but mass-produced and widely available. It will depreciate at a similar rate to most of its competitors (although more slowly than a Ford/Citroen etc.).

If depreciation is a concern to you then the above advice about buying a pre-depreciated MK7 is probably sound.

If you're thinking about a 2023 car, then they are far less common than pre-2018ish. From memory, the GTD was the single most popular model in an admittedly burgeoning Golf lineup during the Mk7's tenure. But its sales tailed off hugely once the company car tax bandings and general sentiment turned against diesel.

As others say, they're still a great package. Especially so if you want a compact car that can do big miles between fill-ups, and don't have access to home charging (like me).

Will a 2023 model depreciate heavily? While the future is always uncertain, for now the used values of a Mk8 GTD trail those of a GTI only fractionally - slightly less, typically, than the gap between them when new. I guess that VW's calculation is that most GTD buyers would just go for a 2.0 TDI 150 R Line if this is the end of the line.

I'd be unlikely to replace our Mk7 GTD with a later one, but that's mainly because I'll need to think about a car our kids can get insured on. boxedin
