Has anyone recently had one done and how much did it cost?

Trying to gauge whether to do it myself or just punt it to a dealer (I have a 2 post so it's fairly straight forward) . If anyone has done it themselves, where did you source the bits? Opie list the oil but don't do a full kit - filter, sump gasket etc.

Car has done 56,000 and is supposed to have had one done at 40k but the cost in the service history looks suspiciously low so I'd like to do it for peace of mind.

2013 A6 Allroad BTW

Cheers

Obviously you'll want to confirm suitability, but throw something like "a6 c7 gearbox service kit" into google or ebay.

Either pay for an erwin session and read the process from factory manual or consult youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjzTJx8RtWo

As Dr G says, there's kits on eBay,

this looks reasonable value and a decent manufacturer, https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/175579159012
this is a good bit cheaper if are ok with reusing the filter cap and bolts, https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/185669549682
(obv., check they suit your car)

If you've got a lift, and a scan tool to check the oil temperature, you've got all the expensive bits. smile

Thanks guys - that kit does look very reasonable and its interesting to note the You Tube video is by the same supplier - the guy in that is so flipping 'German'biglaugh

The one bit I don't fully understand is the oil temp 'check', what's involved and why this is necessary?

Just phoned and the whole job is a very resonable £229 at my local VAG Indie so I don't think I'm going to get my hands oily this time.

The oil temperature bit is so that the level in the box is set accurately, the volume changes (a little) with temperature.

If you don't have a scan tool that can read the gearbox temp., I'd be very tempted by that £229 and not getting oily. smile

Ah, thanks that all makes sense.

Yes, it's not worth my hassle for the saving so I'll book it in with the Indie and ask them for a service record print off as well

Yes, there's a specific fill and check procedure. Most garages will ask the car is left with them overnight so they can observe this accurately.

Does a main dealer replace the various filters or just clean them??

Had my 2015 A4 Allroad done by specialist and it was quite a bit more than £229 - I’ll dig out the invoice.

I asked them this very question when I was quoted as I thought it was cheap and, yes, it does include both filters.

Had our 7 speed DSG serviced @ Audi Bridgend in June last year. £321.74 to be exact.

Not too bad, but think next time I'll seek a local indie if it saves near £100...

2013 Allroad also biggrin

I've done the DSG service twice, although just the fluid, external filter, drain plugs etc. I didn't replace the sump, but as the fluid coming out looked clean on both occasions I'm not particularly worried. I did have to source a long tube to feed down through the engine bay and into the transmission fill hole.

I've nothing against 3rd party fluids, but for the specialised DSG I wanted to be super safe, so I used only genuine fluid and parts. Total cost was £222.31.

I've also done the gearbox fluid and rear diff fluid as well at 69k miles. Total cost for the fluid and parts was £214.62.

If you want all the part numbers just let me know. Ta
