So have been looking at skoda seat and vw new vehicles..and i noticed the 2.0tsi engine is not available now..they all are 1.5tsi even the top spec models

Anybody know why? As i am actually looking at getting 2-3 year old 2.0tsi tiguan or seat tarraco. BUT i am now worried will this bite me in the long run as this engine seems to have been dropped now by the manufacturer

Cupra still offer the 2.0, its to "warm/hot" for a SEAT these days so Cupra does it now.

I think the EA888 2.0 TSIs are now more used in performance applications like the Golf R, GTI, vRS Skodas, Cupra Seats, etc.

The onslaught of downsizing continues!

Man that is crazy..guess they will pulling more ev and hybrid engines in then.

I have had the 1.5tsi in 2 different cars now past 6 years it is a great engine. But i wanted a bit more power and the 4wd which only the 2.0 had. Looks like they dropped the 4wd for certain models too then.

Not looking good for the future of motoring. Personally hate the Electric push going on

Doesn't seem that long ago we were complaining about six cylinder engines being discontinued in things like Passats, Insignias and Mondeos... Now we're playing "find the engine over 1.5l".

Why will it bite you in the long run?

The Tiguan and the tarraco are being replaced, with the new Tiguan having a more competent PHEV drivetrain which is where cars are heading which lower the fleet Co2 over a normal petrol.

A 1.5 with a turbo i cant see hitting the 100k mark without problems in the long run. Or am i missing something.

Small engines with big power have never gone down well for reliablity

It’s sad to see the loss of the 190-230 HP 2.0 litre, it was a good engine and reasonably strong dsg gearbox combination.

I believe the 1.5’s use the dry dsg automatic so there are no oil changes.

I’d considered a 2 litre just because the gearbox is stronger and has the regular 40k mile oil changes.

The timing belts on the 1.5 are around £1k to do, used to be every 5 years but vw changed that to now just on mileage around 150k.

I doubt a 1.5 dsg will last that long, it’s a good engine but not like the 2.0 that can go on for years.

I was a looking at Octavia’s and t-rocs a while back , both were still available with the 2.0 litre but they must have only sold a few as there were hardly any available.

Well if you are buying 2-3 year old ones then why does it matter it’s been discontinued now?

I really don’t understand the posters who are suggesting the 1.5 won’t be a long lasting engine. It’s got, what, 150bhp? That’s not a lot given the capacity and forced induction, and surely no different to a 2.0 giving 200bhp, which is tame nowadays.

150bhp is also ample in most applications and I can’t see it being necessary to overwork the engine in day to day driving.

Perhaps those posters can explain their thinking. I’m genuinely interested in why you hold this viewpoint.

I am not planning change it every 2-3 years. The next one i get i am planning to keep for a long time hence why i was edging towards the 2.0

The 1.5 has never given me problems. No idea how they are on high mileage either as its a new engine yet

Going by the old school motoring standards small engines never seem to handle itself once they high high mileage. Hope that is not the case with these new ones then
