Audi Q5 Emissions Fault
Discussion
Hi Guys.
I have an Audi Q5 17 plate. The car has been well maintained and looked after. Fully serviced. Im looking for feedback on my emissions fault issue. The Emissions light came on a few days ago. I took the car into a reputable Audi approved garage for a Diagnostic check and plan for repair. Ive been informed that it needs 4 new Glow Plugs, a new Adblue Tank (complete with an internal fixed Glow Plug), a new Module, a new Adblue Pump. Parts alone cost £3000 the repair bill estimate is £4000. The garage have offered a cheaper alternative. The removal of the Adblue System. This involves remapping the engine. Cost £1000. Ive been informed that this is legal, it improves engine efficiency and does no harm. Obviously I am tempted by this but am also wary.
Has anyone in this Group encountered similar issues? If so what was the outcome, how did you get repairs done and what was the cost? Im shocked at how so many faults have occurred simultaneously with no warning whatsoever.
Any feedback would be gratefully received.

you need to try a different garage.
That sounds like there are multiple fault codes held within the ECU, however they may all related to one problem, which you may or may not have listed.
Really it requires far more investigation. If it was me, I'd pay a couple of hundred quid to have the faults diagnosed properly by someone who knows what they are doing.
You may then get a more specific fault and replacement that costs a lot less than 4k

I'd be tempted to have the adblue system removed also however suprised an Audi approved garage would suggest this?
Have you got an audi specialists locally? Perhaps they'll be able to get to the bottom of it from knowledge seen from servicing and repairing cars outside of warranty. Adblue faults seem common, my own 2019 2.0 Tdi A4 has had a repair under the warranty of a control module relating to the adblue system (prior to my ownership) and my specialist (Quattro Tech cambridge area) sees the fault with some frequency.

What's the root cause of the problem though?
I don't want to worry you OP but I follow a youtube channel by a garage called O'Rileys Autos, based in Bedfordshire somewhere. A fairly common scenario is that a customer has had the entire adbluesystem/dpf/egr replaced at great expense or mapped out then the replacement goes wrong as well, because the real fault was not addressed.

You should google the phrase "audi q5 adblue injector location" and clean the injector . Its very suprising that all 4 glow plugs should fail at the same time !
(1) Find another garage
(2) Get yourself a code reader
(3) never let adblue get empty
(4) never overfill it as the level sensor in the tank will get confused , its generaly a ultrasonic type

While removing an adblue system in itself if not illegal, its illegal to drive it on a public road:
"Under the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations (Regulations 61(7) and 61A(3)) and the Road Traffic Act 1988 (Section 42) it is an offence to use on a road a vehicle which has been modified in such a way that it no longer complies with the air pollutant emissions standards it was designed to meet."
With regard to the garage, I'd be surprised it every single one of those components had failed and needed replacement.

Would Audi even have an approved garage outside the dealer network,
no they wouldn't , however it sounds like they are a service centre only, so get to be Audi Authorised Repairer, but don't get to sell new Audi's.There are not that many in the UK, so I am guessing its Audi Aylesbury.
