Asking on behalf of our eldest who might need some repair work on a 2018 Tiguan TDi with the DGS gearbox. Having done some reading up I suspect it might need a fairly expensive repair and was hoping that a specialist in their area might be a better option if anyone knows of a place they can recommend in the Reading/Berkshire area?

It is out of warranty and is currently at the local VW dealer waiting to have the fault checked after it got stuck in second gear and put various warning lights on the dash. Car was fine the next day when they took it to the dealer for them to check it. Symptoms seem to match many other owner's experience with faults to do with the clutch/solenoid/sensor. The car has done under 40k and has been main dealer serviced as it's a lease car, but they extended the lease and of course now it is out of warranty.

These guys are recognised experts with VAG gearbox problems, but they're in Bristol -

Thanks A14RGS probably a bit far out to take it from where they live.

Still waiting to see what the main dealer says, but I'm not optimistic having read up a bit on these gearboxes. frown

The fault could also be a microswitch in the shift lever, much cheaper to fix

Thanks, I'll let them know if it should come to that as I haven't heard any news from them about VW dealer yet. I'd have hoped there would be some one nearer though as VWs are pretty popular?

Mill Road Garage are an indy VAG garage with a very good rep amongst VW owners locally. They are jus down the road from me in Caversham.

I haven't used them for over 15yrs, but I used to take my ex-missus' Golf here for service and they were always very good.

Probably the kind of thing they have seen before and won't charge main dealer rates on.

Good news (so far): The dealer has ordered a part and the lease company is paying for it. Fingers crossed that sorts it, though I suspect it'll be going back soon after this scare. The whole point of having a lease car is so they don't have to worry about unexpected bills...I'd hate to pay out a couple of grand to fix a gearbox only to hand the car back shortly after. Not that I lease myself, but would be tough on them if that happens.
