So someone decided that for Christmas, what I'd really like is to not have a door mirror anymore.

I now need to find a replacement asap otherwise we don't have a family car to visit family for Christmas!

Does anyone on here have any idea where I can get a replacement at short notice?

The bit that is fully mullered is the casting that goes inside the door. I've tried to photograph it here:

Part code appears to be SP0001042MAN10044ELE.

..However, that doesn't google. I've loked on the bay of E, and can get either a copy part (no electrical fold, no heating, no light etc) for 150 quid by Friday, but I'd only have to take that off again when I got a proper mirror that moves like it should!

Meanwhile, I've found a replacement but delivery is by 5th Jan which isn't very useful.

My google-fu has run out - can the power of PH come to the rescue?

Thanks in advance!
Gump

why does a broken mirror stop you visiting family?

Are there any scrap-yards locally which let you take the parts off the cars yourself? If so, worth ringing to see if they've got any Tourans - they're probably about the right age to have a decent number of MOT failures coming in.

I wouldn't waste £150 on the wrong part - can the mirror body be lashed back on with tape etc to get you through the Christmas period and a generic replacement glass stuck on? Alternatively, depending on how many days you need it, it may be cheaper to rent a car a few days for the Christmas family duties.

You can't drive a car with a missing mirror, it's not roadworthy! How the hell would you make sure you're not about to kill a cyclist / motorcyclist?

Thanks - I'll be ringing round whatever I can google tomorrow. This model is 2016 onwards though, so I doubt an MOT would kill one - more I need to find someone who's pranged it (but on the other side!) =)

Good grief, how do cars go on the road with less than 3 mirrors. rolleyes

Many cars until the 1980s were produced with no side mirrors, or perhaps one on the driver's side. Plenty of looking over your shoulder at all changes of direction would suffice. smile I wouldn't expect it to make the car considered as unroadworthy, that's defective brakes / tyres / lights etc.

However, I note that on cars produced after 26/01/2010, you need all 3 mirrors at an MoT frown For cars registered between 1978 and 2010, it is a requirement to have one on the driver's side and one other (either a rear view, or in the case of many vans, only one on on the passenger side. Personally, I'd use the car if it were me.

Breakers yard would be my recommendation.

You can do a request online to a few at the same time to scavenge the part.

There are loads coming up on Facebook Marketplace. Where in the country are you located?

Replying solely in case anyone has to google it in future, and it helps anyone. Thanks to all that offered help =)

The inner bracket bit isn't for sale from VW separately. VW wanted 450 for the mirror gubbins, 130 for the shiny painted bit around the mirror, and 80 quid for a mirror glass.

Put a wanted ad on FB marketplace, received loads of "DM me" from people (inc the US, Lithuania etc). The ones I replied to were all scams frown

Phoned loads of VW breakers, none had anything, then found these guys https://parts.intapart.com/find-auto-parts/
They had 3 in stock (wrong colors, but at least they are here and only 150 quid delivered!) It's due tomorrow.

In this "find a new mirror quick" mission, I also almost fell for dodgy pattern parts on ebay a couple of times. They look great (photo looks right) but then the small print says they have no puddle lights, no motor, etc etc.

Fingers crossed that it turns up tomorrow!
