when clutch not depressed and in neutral has a engine rattling noise, goes when clucth depressed. Can see engine actually move a small amount when depressing and releasing clutch.
Any ideas?

Sounds like the dual mass flywheel chattering.

My Mrs mk6 does the same, depress the clutch and it stops.
It's been doing it for a few years and for about 30k miles now.
Last service the garage noted "noisy clutch release bearing"

Age and mileage of the car? Is there any judder through the clutch pedal if you release it gently in first with no throttle?
