AUDI 2017 B9 which engine?
Discussion
I have had a 2016 A4 190 now for just over 5 years. I've also had the 3.0tdi for a week as a courtesy car when mine was in for warranty work many years ago.
I echo what was mentioned, the 3.0l does sound nice and a little more shove, but much worse fuel economy. My 190 is mostly used for my 100 mile round trip to the office twice a week, and I regularly get 65mpg indicated, my record is 71mpg for the trip! I think when I had the 3.0, it was more like 35 - 40mpg for the same journey.
With 7.7secs to 60 (only 1 second slower than the 3.0l) it doesn't feel like a slouch either. To me this makes it the absolute perfect engine, the best fuel economy I've ever had in a car when I want it to be, but plenty of power when needed. All wrapped in a car that's a very comfortable place to be, and in my case nearly every option ticked! - This is the reason why it's the longest I've ever owned a car, it still feels fresh and up to date inside and out, and there is nothing I could replace it with that wouldn't result in some kind of compromise.
I spent 18.5K on mine at 18 months old in 2018 with 16k on the clock, if I want a like for like replacement now with all the options I have, I'd need to buy a Vorsprung, and they are 35-38k! So looks like I'll still be keeping a while yet.

Its to replace an XC40 150bhp D3 which to be fair is a great car, but it feels slow overweight and old manish.
I suppose if i needed to have a bit more oomph i could get a stage 1 on it.
I would be equally concerned about driver ergonomics as well as economy.
Assume you have test driven the car, Volvo's are generally very comfortable but Audi's are questionable. As a long term Audi owner the seats and driving position are either right/okay or really bad with no middle ground.

No worries - If you have any other questions happy to answer.
With regards to the seats, I would say they are the most comfortable I've ever had in a car. I would recommend going for at least "sports" spec as the seats hug you more with side bolsters, and have the adjustable thigh rest. Mine are electric / memory as well which helps a lot as you get extra levels of adjustments to get it just right.

I owned an S4 with the Recaro sports seats and yes lovely, upgraded to an S6 with supersport seats and it is horrendous. With regards to the seats, I would say they are the most comfortable I've ever had in a car. Would echo that sentiment, I have an XC40 as a company car and while I've had that, we've had a B9 A4 Avant S-Line and a TT 40 Vorsprung and the Audi seats are terrible compared to the Volvo's.Assume you have test driven the car, Volvo's are generally very comfortable but Audi's are questionable. I have just bought a 2019 "40 TDI" Quattro A4 Avant. It's the 190hp/400nm unit.
I did consider the lower power 3.0 in a different Audi but fuel economy is worse and costs such as cambelt are more expensive on the bigger engine. The 204hp 3.0 also puts out 400nm of torque so not really worth it imo.
Prior to the A4 I had two VAG cars with the 2.0 common rail 170ps unit and found it perfect for day to day driving with a good balance between pace and economy. The A4 is a little quicker but too soon to tell re fuel ecomony, though i suspect it will be better than the 170ps unit as my Dad regularly gets 65-70mpg out of his 2.0 Tdi Q2 Quattro.
