Bugatti Veyron spotted testing

Spy shots show monster car still under test

PistonHeads's spies have spotted the 1,000bhp Bugatti Veyron testing at high altitudes. At Mount Evans, Colorado, which is 14,000ft up, is the highest paved road in the USA.

We hear that VW's -- sorry, Bugatti's -- engineers were undertaking some road and altitude testing.

Vignettes:

  • The guy doing the pull from the laptop had plugs up his nose, he seemed to be unused to high altitudes.
  • The wheelrims said PROTO on them
  • There was some tape holding some of the skin/body components of the car on too. Three cars were there on a semi-truck
  • The rear spoiler seems to be adjustable it has pistons under it. It also appears to be retractable. I did not however see it move.
  • We followed it down the mountain, they did not go down very fast. The driver pulled over at the bottom and again did a check on his laptop. I could smell something hot or overheating, think it was the brakes.

The rear is really bug - eh butt - ugly . . . IMO

I understand this is the taped and glued EB (50ct must be jealous about the size of that badge) butt - bug - err, the Saggy wing is also not really elegant. so it fits the picture :hehe: . . .

Get this thing over with quick, produce the 25 or howmuch for those who want one - can't imagine who - and never bother us again . . .

Ah, that's why those new Golfs are a bit overpriced . . .

Who are those PHers . . .

I drove past the factory a few weeks ago in Molsheim and saw one coming out of the gates. It's definitely going to be built now, just a question of much further they modify it.

the badge on the rear is horrible, the front is so so..but the rest of the car looks nice, nice proportions.

i dont understand why people slag it off, oh yeah i forgot..a car with 1000bhp and 250mph is just gonna be boring.

if someone said TVR or Lotus was making something with the same specs everyone would be creaming their pants.

Regardless about how people feel or percieve its market worthyness everything I see about this car seems to be some massive engineering battle between Bugatti and heat be it from the brakes or the engine.

I just desperately hope they dont lose sight of the fact that they are making a car in this epic battle.

It would also be far more exciting and they would already be selling it faults and all

Is this still going on . I wish they´d just make it and sell it or can the project. This has to be the biggest white elephant ever.

Not to mention the lumpiest.
Why do all German cars look like they're supposed to have a turret mounted on top.
Is there another invision coming we should know about?

Strangely enough I got overtaken by an A4 this afternoon which looked to be in Wehrmacht Green.

And besides, Bugatti is SUPPOSED to be French...now that could ruffle a few feathers either side of the Maginot Line!!!

agreed if it had a tvr or lotus badge it would be on the road by now with the lucky owners no doubt getting very hot in the cabin....

guess your right, its much to heavy and much to functional, or shal I say, they try too...

but when all works(finally or ever?) I like to take it out for a 1000+hp spin....

This car looks terrible for what it is. It has a strong stance but all the addons, scoops and that wing spoil the basic shape and it just 'looks' heavy.

I agree 1001BHp would be nice to play with but I read somewhere that in this thing it is not permanently available. Instead when you want the full banana you have to stop, turn a key, press a button until a light comes on and then you have the lot.

But then if you stop again you have to go through the procedure again! What a crock, if you are paying their ridiculous price you want full performance available immediately, not have to fill out an eletronic application!

We have some great hypercars out there from more qualified sports car makers than the V/A Group, this car is an answer to a question even most enthusiasts didn't ask.

Oh and just to be clear Bugatti was originally Italian, the company later moved to France, but lets face it, like MG, Mini and many others it is now little more than a name used to sell a conglomerations' product, however ill concieved it was. Rant over.

TVR did (almost), it was called the Cerbera Speed 12 and Evo gave it 12.5 out of 5 or something

Well, there are at least three hundred BILLIONAIRES in the world right now, and I would bet that a bunch of them just don't care how much a car costs, period. If its unique and cool, there are enough people out there that can afford to pick it up something like this on a whim.

Just read some tests. Imagine the figures:

1. 0-100 Km/h : 2,5 sec.
2. 0-200 Km/h : 7,5 sec.
3. 0-300 Km/h : 17,8 sec.

Figure 1. matches Valentino´s racing bike
Figure 2. matches Micheal´s Ferrari F1.
Figure 3. is simply unbelievable.

Fuel consumption might be an issue. Full throttle means 1 litre per Km. Based on this there should be a station every 12 minutes. (There was one photograph in the magazine where you could read the board computer, saying 5,8 mpg...)

This car is no beauty. But simply a milestone in modern engineering.

Now what do you think about this, a 1000hp Ultima sports only 980kg....

www.zcars.org.uk/ultima/conversion.htm

must be faster then the Bugg in theory... and it took not that long to build and much cheaper then a 1.000.000,-euro Veyron...also cheaper to run...
but oké maybe not that exclusiv.
