Hi guys

Possibly an easy question to answer but I am trying to install an aftermarket head unit to my sons Golf MK 6 and on the original wiring harness I cannot find any switched current.......so the radio is constantly on.

Do I need to find a switched supply from the fuse to go to the red wire?

Thanks i tried uploading a photo but failed dismally.

Normally with an aftermarket headunit the permanent and switched live have bullet connectors on them to allow you to switch the wires round. Try this first

I believe on the MK6 Golf there isn't any switched live in the harness, it uses the CanBus to switch on and off.. If your new headunit doesn't have a CanBus interface you either need to use an adaptor or take a feed from the fuse box. The 12V power socket (cigar lighter) is switched but I understand that when the ignition is off it still has some residual voltage so that be used otherwise the battery will drain.
