golf gti mk 7 plate surround

hi, I've been looking at buying an after market plate surround , the type with the German dealership name on front , am sure you know the type...question is does the black surround fit onto of the black plastic plate that's already on the car or does this all need taking off?? I've heard its a bit of a faff and you need to drill our plastic/aluminium pins ??? cant be bother doing that.... any ideas ?/
