A London-based family member bought a 2001 Audi TT Quattro Convertible
It looks good & has a healthy engine, but there are 2 immediate problems:

1) A gaiter on the steering rack has deteriorated.
2) The rear window has come completely out of the hood.

We are trying to work out what to do:
a) Track down one or more specialists to repair the rack & refit the window.
b) Replace the rack with a reconditioned one (new racks are no longer available)
c) Buy another TT Convertible that is being sold for spares & employ someone to cannibalise it to sort out these problems & some less pressing issues.

I'd welcome any thoughts - or referrals to those who might be able to do such work.

Assuming there is nothing else wrong with the steering rack ,a new gaiter is a simple job for anyone with spanners .

You need to find a soft top hood specialist to repair or replace the hood .

d) buy another Mk1 TT with working steering and a roof with glass in.

If you're not going to do the work yourselves it will cost you a fortune to get a tatty one up to any kind of standard, far more than it will cost to buy a better one. Even if you are, it's probably still marginal. Ask me how I know.

There are steering rack specialists around - I've not used one in a few years, admittedly.

Cayman autos in Redhill, Surrey will have no problem fixing the roof.
