I had the Sachs organic upgrade with dm flywheel done at 22,000 miles. Flywheel was preventative rather than totally necessary. Not in your area so can't help with places to get it done. If going for sintered I'd definitely look at dual mass flywheel, or an RTS clutch. The Sachs I have is lovely, just slightly heavier than OEM with quite a low bite point.

Ok thanks, has yours been mapped and if so has the new clutch stopped any slipping?

I have an Ecotune map developing 460/450 off a Garrett turbo and associated hardware. The Sachs organic clutch is only rated to 430 ft/lbs but I have no slippage whatsoever. Haven't abused the car too much yet though. I was going to go with RTS at stage 3 but liked the Sachs so much I decided to risk keeping it.

Go Sachs Organic.

If the clutch is already slipping you'll need a new flywheel. The slipping makes them HOT and ruins the surface.

Edit: Sachs recommend you replace the slave too.

I had a Sachs Organic clutch put in my car after the standard clutch gave up at 15,000 miles. Didn’t need a new flywheel. My car isn’t modified and I don’t beat it up. I was quite surprised that the stock clutch went so quickly, they must be made of paper.

I’m happy with the Sachs upgrade.

15k miles is very unusual; manufacture defect? Usualy involves some sort of abuse or carelessness to smoke one that quickly.

With sensible use the standard one can last the best part of 100k no issue.

Mine (GTI rather than R) looked brand new at ~70k.

GTI isn’t a 300 bhp 4 wheel drive car. Seriously did not abuse it, just a weak design.

But, nonetheless extremely unusual? Without tempting fate I've driven 750,000 miles (not in the same car) and never had a clutch failure. Well, apart from a snapped cable on my Viva, but I just pulled the pedal off & left it on the back seat hehe
