hi, can anyone recommend a insurance company that may not show up through usual routes, I've been looking around on compare market etc and its showing £800 for a 12k mark 7 golf gti for 40 plus male with 6 points for silly sp30's... is this right ???

cheers

Sounds a bit high but there are many factors taken into consideration, such as the area you live in. I've had one SP30 on my record and it didn't seem to make much difference, maybe 2 in a short timeframe significantly increases the risk profile.

You tried the usual trick of adding a named driver to the policy, sometimes helps.
Maybe try Adrian flux or Performance direct but in my experience they are no cheaper than compare the market results.

The 2xSP30s will be what's doing you in. It seems a single SP30 doesn't affect premiums that much, maybe £60-80, but anything over and you'll need to pull your trousers down.

I'm 39 with a lightly modified MK7 GTI insured through Brentacre at ~£550 from memory. Your quote sounds about right assuming points add at least a couple of hundred quid.

I would say try Brentacre though, as I find them really helpful. They're pleasingly old school in that they're "phone only", but worth 5 minutes of your time to enquire.
