What's the latest on the Golf Mk8, have they fixed the plethora of software and electronic issues that have been reported since launch?

I liked my old Mk 7.5 GTI, so considering a Mk8 GTI or GTI Clubsport, but not if it's going to be a bug riddled fk up.

Also lead times are reportedly long, so I'm curious if a facelift/Mk 8.5 is on the way?

Supposedly the 2022 onwards cars are now OK.

I went with a 2020 golf 7.5 instead of an 8 that was selling for not much more

The early ones have unfixable problems, so I'm very glad I did.

They need a new computer, but it's not compatible with the early models so issues will never be fixed.

I have a July ‘21 mk8 Clubsport that I got last August with 8000 miles on it.

Zero issues until March this year when suddenly I got loads of Travel Assist / SOS error bongs. Every time you turned the steering, sometime every 20 seconds. I’d also get the central screen rebooting several times a week - the music stops, the screen goes black and the system reboots.

I had a new steering wheel in May and the TA/SOS bongs have stopped. The reboots still happen - it seems to be worse if you drive the car within 60 seconds of starting the engine. If you leave it longer, it rarely reboots.

Tonight I had 2 new bongs very briefly, both relating to parking sensors.

Annoying issue is the speed limit displayed on the dash - the car will show what the camera last saw, even if it’s not the limit of the road. I still get random limits like 90 or 55 or 25 which don’t even exist

Interior build is definitely lower than the 7.5 - my 8 cracks constantly due to the plastics. That said, I don’t have creaking doors / windows in my 8 like I do in my 7.5

Oh and lack of backlighting on the heater / volume control still bugs me at night

I’m now approaching 26000 miles so none of the above have stopped me driving the car. They’re niggles more than anything else

I’ve had a December 2021 build which was fine. Now have a September 2022 built one and again it’s fine. Late 2021 they starting upgrading the chips which sorted pretty much everything out

Still got the world’s stupidest climate controls though, no fixing that. Facelift is rumoured to have different controls

They've thankfully admitted their mistake with the touch pads on the steering wheel and the heater controls.

There was an interview this week with a senior VW person saying they had made things frustrating for customers and we're going to fix it

It's going to take them a few years to correct the mistake unfortunately, I'd have thought it would be easy just to switch production to different ones or even offer replacements as an upgrade.

You get use to the controls many of the modern cars now have all these Gizmos
The Golf R is a great package especially with change to the four wheel drive system and it is faster than the number provided by VW

No VW dealer near where I am has a single GTI, GTI Clubsport or R available to have a look at. Yet they seem to be falling over ID models. I'll be waiting for the Mk8.5 anyway.
