Is the VW used car warranty a VW warranty?
Discussion
I'd assumed that the 2 year warranty offered by VW main dealers is a VW warranty and well worth having. However, having read the small print in a VW car advert at a main dealer it states 24 months Warranty Wise warranty, which is more like an insurance product. This makes me wonder how good it is, given the horror stories I've heard about warranty companies trying to wriggle out of claims. Does anyone have any info or experience of these warranties?
I've claimed under the VW used car warranty a couple of times in recent years without any difficulties.
My claims were for a flickering headlight unit on a Golf GTI (£1,100), and a noisy clutch on an Up! (£700).
Much depends on the Dealer, and the Service Manager, who has to authorise the work, and gain agreement from the Warranty company. As long as you've had the car serviced in accordance with VW's guidelines, and it hasn't been abused, you shouldn't have too many issues.

You'd need to check on this, but I think that will be for cars which can't be sold as Approved Used for whatever reason. The VW Approved Used warranty is here: https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/en/used-cars/approved... and it actually says on page 10 "This Warranty is not an insurance product but a guarantee provided by Volkswagen UK."
Having said that, I was talking to an Inchcape VW dealer this morning as wife's Tiguan is in for work which I hope will be covered by the All In warranty. Service Advisor said they (I think she meant the whole Inchcape group) use Car Care Plan for non Approved Used and find that easier to get things authorised than they do with VW.
I took out the VW Extended Warranty on my long term Family Passat when the 3 year warranty was up. There was an offer of 25% off and it worked out at just c.£33 per month for the warranty and servicing for 2 years. The T&Cs state it's a VeeDub UK product and the car had to be booked in for a free inspection before they would cover it.
If it was a third party warranty there's no way I would have gone for it with all the ratbag warranty companies such as the one covering the infamous BMW M5. I'm proud to say that I've lost the warranty companies thousands and thousands of pounds by getting friends and family to save their money, and I don't think anyone has had any major issues.

This is what Audi say about their extended warranty:
"Audi Extended Warranty is administered by Lawshield UK Limited
on behalf of Volkswagen Financial Services (UK) Limited (“VWFS”),
underwritten by AWP P&C SA and reinsured by Volkswagen
Versicherung AG. In addition, please note that all warranty claims
are administered by Opteven Services SA on behalf of AWP P&C SA."
AWP P&C SA = Allianz, as far as I can see.
Exact translation of the above would need someone smarter than me!

The VW Extended warranty says the same, but it (might be) important to note that it's different to the Approved Used warranty that comes with Approved Used Cars. "Audi Extended Warranty is administered by Lawshield UK Limited

We have the "All In" package on our VW and, like the Approved Used Warranty that also says "this Warranty is not an insurance product but a guarantee provided by Volkswagen UK"
This is a minefield and Buyer Beware applies here.
Personally I think either the original factory or approved used warranty are worth having as the manufacturer is involved. A lot of the manufacturer's are now offering warranty extensions but you need to check these offer the same warranty conditions.
You also need to consider the age/mileage of your vehicle and how easy claims can be rejected under wear and tear exclusion as the warranty extension may not give you the real peace of mind you are expecting.

Correct, that's a distinct product but a lot of the terms are the same. The AUC warranty is transferrable, for example, where extended is not.Gassing Station | Audi, Seat, Skoda & VW | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
