Still looking for a possible replacement for my Abarth and have seen a few TT’s that look really nice.

Do they all have visual dash?
Inherent problems?
Catastrophic failures?

Quattro would be the pick (or are they all Quattro)?

I understand that they’re not that involving as a driving car but they look like a decent cruiser.
Budget up to £18k - thoughts or suggestions welcome.

Some late night research…

I now know not all have the 4WD, the entry level car is reasonable and the rear seats are tiny.

Any owners current or past?

There are a number of Red examples on PH - I think the colour stands out amongst the sea of black and silver cars.

The number of wheel styles is a bit OTT - though some designs suit the car more than others imho.

Sticks.

I don't know of any inherent problems and haven't heard about any major issues. Things like the visual dash and the upgraded heater controls are options AFAIK. The rear seats are pretty well useless as seats. I'd have thought the TTS was the one to go for but I've not compared prices. Some of he special editions are well equipped so look out for that. Brochure here https://www.docdroid.net/PIQEt7s/tt2-pdf

Btw, agreed re wheels and the 20s apparently reduce mpg and so attract a higher VED. I find the 19s a bit harsh at times. I woldn't buy one for it's sports car properties but it's a nice car to have and easy to live with.

Thanks sticks.

I’m not on FB so any groups are out of reach and the TTOC is membership only.

I think I need to get out and try a couple.

Not many S’s for sale and are a couple of grand more.

Worth the increase over the mid range model?

Sticks.

I've not driven one I'm afraid, but I suspect it's best to find the best spec and mileage 2.0 or S for your price rather than outright performance.

The TT Forum has a lot of info, free, sign up to message and remove ad's. https://www.ttforum.co.uk/forums/tt-forum-mk3-tt-8...

On there, the "what should I buy? What should I look for? Any common problems?" is asked on an almost weekly basis. Just scroll down a bit...

My one big piece of advice is - never go by an advert saying "This Pack That Pack, etc" - check the spec in detail to make sure the car has what you want.

I have a mk2 tt but have looked at the mk3 to see the difference in how they are specked. The 1.8 and some 2.0 (petrol and diesel) are only front wheel drive. Some 2.0 are 4 wheel drive if around 215bhp mark. Everything about is only 4 wheel drive. The 4 wheel Quattro isn’t a permanent 4 wheel drive system run like all other Audis. It’s front wheel drive which turns into 4 wheel drive when detecting slippage. Great system for normal driving, not the best for sports car driving. The heldex is a weak point in the fact that Audi do not replace the filter on them when servicing (only back flush them). You can get the filter thought (there’s a place up north that’s on eBay that sell kit).

The vertical dash is standard on all models but they are locked to only show what the spec allows (eg if you want the rs style red dials on your diesel you can’t at the moment (people are working on it)). Audi could do it but they will charge a lot.

Other than that, treat it as a small gt car and you will be more than happy with it, see it as a sports car and you will be disappointed
