Remap recommendations Somerset/Devon
Discussion
Hi guys, I'm new here. I'm looking to get my 2.0 TDI 150 remapped (Seat Leon FR). I've had REVO maps before so that's my baseline but wondered if anyone's got other recommendations for remappers in the South West. I've come across a local garage that does Yorvik remaps but I've no idea whether they're any good. Anyone familiar with them? Seems quite a lot of garages offer them.
Cheers, Spencer

Yep, that's who I got my last Revo map from and actually they're walking distance from where I work so probably where I'll end up. Just curious to see if there are cheaper/better options. I know Revo maps are off the shelf, not adjusted to the car but also top end in terms of price at £399 +VAT. This "Yorvik Tuning" map is also off the shelf, fairly local and only £200. The question is, is it any good? LOTS of places are offering them but so far I can't find much online about the maps themselves, hence this post. As far as I can see they're based up in Skipton and they supply mapping hardware (Auto Tuner, Kess, Dimsport Trasdata/Genius V2, Flashtec CMD Flash, etc.) and also maps to the trade. All a bit too unknown I think.

Retro Resus did mine and my son's Leon FRs. If you look at their webpage they do some fairly substantial mechanicals rather than just map downloads. They're just outside Taunton - I'd go back to them again without hesitation.
Another one not too far from me.. I'll give them a shout too. CheersJust out of interest, my research into which maps Norvik use has led me to some interesting places.. So one of the remapping tools they sell comes from a company called Autotuner (am I allowed to post links in here?) so I had a quick online chat with them. They're also known as OLSX and he's given me a link to their maps page olsx.lu - It's quite interesting. Every shape and size of map imaginable! Says they've been doing it for years.
For mine they do:
Stage 1 map - 150 -> 185ch & 320 -> 420Nm
Stage 2 map - 150 -> 195ch & 320 -> 440Nm
For mine they do:
Stage 1 map - 150 -> 185ch & 320 -> 420Nm
Stage 2 map - 150 -> 195ch & 320 -> 440Nm

I bet a lot of the big companies dont write their own maps and use something like this.For mine they do:
Stage 1 map - 150 -> 185ch & 320 -> 420Nm
Stage 2 map - 150 -> 195ch & 320 -> 440Nm
Its something im generally interested in and always fancied doing it as a little sideline but have never looked into it.
Most will frown upon it saying you have to have a reputable dyno proven tune but its always interested me if the likes of Revo write their own stuff.
Jorvik tuning Wales use these tools you mention but do have a dyno in house.
I had a tune on a B5 Passat years ago done by a man in a van via angel tuning, was very happy with it, i also have work colleagues that have had theirs done by a local guy without issues.

Yep, that's the impression I'm getting and actually I've taken it a step or two further (got a bit obsessed with the research!).. I've gone through Yorvik's catalog and identified the Alientech Kess v2 as a good all round budget chipping device worth a look. Have a quick search on YouTube - really interesting tutorials on there. Its something im generally interested in and always fancied doing it as a little sideline but have never looked into it.

Anyway, I bid on one on eBay last night but lost - ended up buying one from China for £60! I won't go anywhere near it with my car, at least until 101% confident I know every in and out - I'll probably get it mapped by a guy in Taunton. But thought it would be really interesting thing to learn, including where's the best place to get generic but decent maps. OLSx for a start but I suspect there's a source they're all using and I'm getting closer to finding them ;-)
Yeah, that's what I'm still researching. I've watched some really interesting YouTube videos of people doing it. As far as I can see, you can get a subscription.. Something like 100 quid for 10 credits which I assume means a tenner a map file.
One YouTube vid was a guy using a cheap Chinese tool and he had to have a few goes at it.. Car wouldn't start at one point, then it ran but was hunting up and down.. He managed it in the end but only with the help of someone who knew what he was doing. Definitely not for the feint hearted and I'm not going anywhere near my daily runner with it until I understand it, inside out and back to front!
Turns out the guy I take my car to for MOTs does remaps but only for friends. So I'm going to pick his brains on it all next time I see him. Also joined a couple of groups on the book of Faces.. Quite interesting to see the chat between much more experienced remappers. In amongst all the scammers too sadly.. PM me, I help. Yeah right!

I think a trusted full paid tool it's hard to go wrong really as it takes you through every step.
I would be concerned about using knock offs personally and for a one off I'd probably just pay someone reputable and let them have the headache if something goes wrong.

Retro Resus between Taunton and Bridgwater on the A38. Take a look at Insta and Goggle.
I've had my MK7 R stage 2 by APR done when new in 2016. Hasn't mIssed a beat on road and track. Done 50k now.
Tom Walker builds VW Cup cars and Golfs for the MK5 PGTI Championship as well as others. Serious techs who have worked in VAG and Tim Stiles Racing when they were younger.
They do APR, Ecotune and Custom with some serious builds.
