VW Touareg ~ V~ Audi Q7.
Discussion
I need an older ~ read that as affordable, car for towing and it must have the capacity to cope with a 3500kg trailer. My budget is £5-10k. I will be looking at 2007 onwards for a sensibly mileaged car.
So here are my questions;
Do either the Touareg or the Q7 have known problems which tend to develop beyond a certain age?
Considering value for money and reliability, is it really a case of pot-luck or are there any clear guidelines that anyone can offer?
Thanks in advance ….

i think it will be similar to any car it will be down to luck and your opinion when you go to view. I have a 2012 Q7 for 6 years got over 120k on it and even though it can be arsey its never truly let me down. thinking of the 2007 on both they will have the 3ltr tdi 240/245bhp engine, which if you look around when maintained and frequent oil changes will do big miles.
my suggestions would be to try and avoid air suspension as that can be good but annoying when it breaks, compressor, valves and blocks are all common. make sure the belts and water pumps have been done and consider extra cash to change all the gaskets and plastics form the top of the engine to the V as the coolant leaks can be horrifically over complicated by garages and they will claim EGR coolers are done but in reality the plastics are all brittle and perished.
