Hello, just purchased a 68 plate seat leon ST (FR sport 188bhp). It has had 1 owner and has covered 41k miles. Is there any vital maintainance that needs carrying out straight away or in the next year/10k miles in terms of the cam belt / water pump / DSG gear box that id specifically need to ask for outside of a normal service?

Also looking at tuning it. According to the superchips website it'll achieve 260bhp. Anyone ever used that company? Thanks

Cam belts are done on a time basis I think, rather than a mileage one, and it looks like yours is due a change soon (I had my 17-plate Leon’s done last year). As for tuning, I had mine remapped rather than chipped and upped the power from 150 to about 200 horse.

A dealer should know what needs doing as long as it's a VAG specialist or main dealer. It must be close to its cam belt interval. For that era of VAG cars, I think belts are usually every five years.

Any benefit to a remap over a chip?

The chip looked proper fiddly to fit and I didn’t particularly like the instructions: ‘if you fail to notice any improvements disconnect the battery and reconnect’. But that was probably just the chip I was looking at. The remap was a much simpler affair from a company that specialise in all things tuning. Dropped the car off then picked it up all done and dusted an hour or so later. Just my own personal experience though.

The EA888 has a timing chain, not a belt. Correct me if I’m mistaken.

DSG gearbox oil change would be wise at 40k mark.

I'll checknthe service history and maybe it's worth taking it straight for a service then thanks

Thanks. I have tried to research this but keep getting different answers everywhere I look!

Yes i'm pretty sure that engine runs a chain. Mine's the 1.8 tsi and its chain. Mine's the same age and mileage. I've just serviced the car myself according to SEAT specifications, I added an air filter, and it needed new pads at the front. on closer inspection the rear discs and pads could do with replacing so will plan to do that soon. All parts are great value, I ordered from Opie oils and they had everything I needed and to the correct specs. I used the FUCHS fully synth. Very easy car to work on.
