Mk8 R or Clubsport?
Discussion
Can't decide between the two...
Need some help!
mk8 R - lapiz with DCC, sunroof and nav pro - 11k miles, 1 owner - £39k / registered March 2021
mk8 clubsport - black, no options - 8k miles, 2 owners - £34,650 / registered Feb 2021
Which would you take, and why?
I do love the sunroof on the R, I have an SVR so looking for a quick hot hatch for work but wont go too crazy with mods as I have a baby which I'll use the car to ferry about sometimes.
Also thinking of depreciation, not sure which would do better in 2/3 years when I look for a new daily.

I owned a 7.5 R for three years a great car and had no problems, mate of mine has a early 21 mk 8 Golf GTI and as had a multitude of electrical glitches incl. constant warning signs on the infotainment screen which is still not resolved two years on he's now waiting for a new steering wheel (5 months on back order) as a last ditch effort to repair it. Be very careful buying a early mk 8 many were rejected by customers as unrepairable.

Go mk 7.5 clubsport
The mk7 had a CS variant available with manual and auto. The 7.5 version of the CS was called the TCR, only available with the upddated 7 speed Dsg gearbox.BlackWidow13 said:
Having owned a mk 7 R and driven a mk 7 clubsport for a few days, I’d take the clubsport every time. I thought the R was one of the dullest cars I’ve driven.
I’ve owned mk7.5 R hatch and estate and driven 20,000 miles in mk 8 CS. In my view the CS is way better in terms of turn in, steering eagerness, lighter and is more economical. The only thing the R does better is getting of the mark from a standing start. The MK8 dash interface is fine once you are used to it. I found the 7 R dull to drive.
The 8 is much more involving and fun. Just take a look at any review, apart from EVO! I feel they are doing an M3 CSL job on it and will change their minds.
Had mine 2 years now and apart from a new steering wheel it hasn't missed a beat. The infotainment system is second nature (as anything new takes getting used to) and all the tec makes it a great daily.
