Golf mark 5 TDI burning oil?

Hi folks,I've owned a new mark 5 golf tdi since last november.
Recently whilst on the motorway the low oil light flashed up and upon checking the oil level it was on the low dip stick mark.
Have any other vw diesel owbners had this and is it unusual for a 9 month old car.
I've checked for leaks and all seems ok.
Could any vw owners or technicians confirm whether this is normal or needs checking 1 litre in 9 months seems a lot although it is my first diesel and may be normal.

What sort of mileage have you done in 9 months? Somewhere near the back of the handbook (probably!), it should state the oil usage tolerances. Can be anything upto a litre per 1000km (623 ish miles) although this isn't likely...
I'm sure your favoured dealer can give you the info and go into detail for the reasons etc... If you think it's using too much, they should be able to start the process of a controlled oil consumption test.

Welcome to the world of 'oil-burners'
Check your handbook which will give an expectation of engine oil usage + the correct oil to use mineral or synthetic depending on serving programming at factory.

Mine did just over 6,000 miles and needed topping up. But I do drive the socks off it and it is chipped. Company car.

Cannot comment on the New MK5, but my MK4 130 gets through about 1 -1.5 litres every 12,000 miles. I drive mine like I stole it every day, and also have it chipped.
I noticed the other day the oil light has 2 colours... Orange and Red. When it turns Orange, I just top up. Its never turned Red ( only when starting )
