Ive just had an amber symbol come up on the dash of my 2003 a4. its the worn pads symbol i think (no manual so cant be sure, circle with broken lines on each side).
the pads still seem to have some life left so ive dissconnected the pad sensors and its still on checked for shorts in the wires nothing obvious and made sure there is fluid in the reservoir. and its still on. any ideas
oh and it takes about 30 seconds to come on when you start it up.

If no letters within the solid circle, then as you suspect brake pads worn. Disconnecting sensor after the warning display is shown makes no odds. The info is stored. New brake pads i'm afraid and the life left in current ones depends on how the car is driven. On decent Audi servicing (hmmm another topic), the paperwork should tell you the percentage of wear left on brake pads + other components/tyres etc
Audi customer service no is freecall 0800699888. Give advice on getting an owners handbook etc. Odd you purchased this vehicle without this or the service records, whatever the country of origin. Good Audi service manager can explain easier the brake pad replacements and resettings than i can on here, plus why. Using Audi will maintain a hazzle free warranty without much extra expense for a new set of brake pads
Had this symbol come up a couple of times in the 4 years Ive had my car. Last time was the day I left for a weeks driving in France. Called the dealer from abroad in a panic, said I was doing another 1000 miles or so before returning. Told not to worry as it normally comes up fairly early. Not sure if they have to reset it, but I 'think' its just a sensor and should go out again if it senses pad material
The car has a service history from the germans and has been well maintained. I have an owners manual but my german isnt quite up to reading it. I will speak to audi when im back in the uk and get a set of pads. the only reason i asked about the warning light on here is im in greece and its just easier, rather than trying to get a greek service manager to explain. If youve ever tried doing anything in greece youll know what i mean.
Many thanks for your help people. you have put my mind at rest. just wasnt sure if i was missing something obvious

In Greece....in the sun........i'm jealous!!!
If i had known that i would have let your pads wear down to the rivets and then see what it would have cost you......
happy hols
