Currently looking at a new a4 and can’t find anywhere what VED rate you’ll ultimately pay on the motor. I realise it’s the £40k limit but which figure they use is a mystery. Eg an a4 avant 35 tfsi with c&s and metallic paint is £39840 via their in house build website here and includes £715 on the road costs https://dcc-uk.audi.de/controller?next=accessory-p...
The ROTR via Audi website comes out at £41140 so which figure is used for the VED cost. To add to the confusion the website goes on to say
Recommended On-The-Road (OTR) prices include: delivery charge, number plates, first registration fee at £55.00 and the first year's Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) (based on the 2022/23 VED rate).
The first year's VED for new cars is calculated on the basis of the car's CO2 emissions. From the second year onwards, you will pay £0 VED for a zero emissions car or a standard rate of £165 per year VED for any other car (when you pay annually). You will also pay an extra £355 per year from years 2 to 6 for a car with a list price of £40,000 or more (including factory installed options, delivery charge, number plates and VAT). From year 7 onwards, only the standard rate will apply.
So this begs the question if using the ROTR price are you supposed to remove the first years VED from the calculation as that doesn’t seem to be in the calculation statement for cars over £40k? Perhaps I’m over complicating this and of course if spending this much does it make much difference but would be good if clear and of course I’d prefer £165 over an extra £355 over the next 5 years. Thanks to anyone who’s got to the end and can help!

Great ta. So as suspected that’s rolled into price but then which price do they use. Checking through auto trader with similar specced cars it looks like those that are sub £40k rrp on the Audi official configurator - but would be over £40k ROTR - when run through the Audi site don’t appear to command the premium. So frustrating.
Another thing is I specced a sport edition that I thought might be under threshold now to be told it’s obsolete! The search continues.
