No more Wörthersee Golf GTI meet

The Wörthersee GTI meet is history… it started in 1981. The locals have voted against it for eco/conservation reasons. It was very popular, though I’ve never attended.

Looks like it may move to Klagenfurt.

Attitudes change with time, both participants and residents.

I first went in (I think) 1987 with a bunch of GTI owning friends from the UK. Even back then it was a considerable strain on the local infrastructure. Within a few years it became necessary for the Austrian police 'heavy mob' to be brought in to keep order; you really didn't argue with them if you wanted to keep your car. It spoilt the event as far as several of us were concerned.

If it's moving to Klagenfurt, that's not such a big deal, it's only a few miles away.
