Audi 8L S3 engine mods
Discussion
The S1 engine to the DQ250 is a straight bolt on.
The RS2 engine on the other hand is going to be a slight challenge, i am going to have to either make an adapter plate or weld and redrill the DQ500 gearbox.
And then there is the space issue.....................
The 5 cylinder engines are 90mm longer than a 4 cylinder, and 40kg heavier! DQ250 same weight as old 6 speed. DQ500 also 50kg more than old gearbox. Both gearboxes require that engines be transversely mounted.
I also have to change the management!!!!!! wondering if the VR5 has the same timing as the RS2 or S1.

Interesting!
I would of thought it should squeeze in, plenty of R32 conversions in 8L's and i'd imagine they're a similar size?
Those DQ500's are absolute units, but from what I've seen they're pretty bombproof.
Management wise I'd have thought you'd be far better off with a standalone. I've been using an Emerald ECU for over 15yrs, the product and customer service has been really good. They are happy to help with custom projects, it'll be able to control the Haldex (sending 50% of the power to the rear at a certain amount of revs/boost) and if you're not too far away you can have it setup/mapped by them at their HQ.
Are you planing to document the builds anywhere?

I am located in South Africa, so getting to the guys at emerald will be a little bit of a challenge, I am going standalone management, we going to use the ECUMASTER black edition, it does the dsg control through canbus.
I have no idea of how to document the build, so many people want to see how i am going to do it.

Ah cool, I've been watching some of the Speed and Sound features on youtube lately, the black FTF built MK1 Golf is incredible!
A Readers Rides thread on here would be great to follow and would get some heavy interest I would have thought
I am not a big fan of that publication, I dont fit in with their style.A Readers Rides thread on here would be great to follow and would get some heavy interest I would have thought
I was talking to mate that has a youtube channel to assist, just waiting for an answer.

It would be a hell of a lot easier to fit the 2.5tfsi engine.
Please elaborate on your statement? From what I have seen the engines are the same size.
