Hey guys

I have a question!!!

Has anyone done or seen an Audi 8L S3 with the old RS2 5 cylinder motor fitted to it?

It is such an awesome motor.....

Any ideas?????

Were any of that generation of cars on the same platform fitted with a transverse 5-pot?

There was no platform that had that motor.

Don’t think I’ve ever seen it done. It’d be cool if a set of Mk4 Golf V5 engine brackets enabled you to mount the motor transversely on the chassis rails in a S3.

If anyone’s done in it it’ll be the Scandi’s, they love that engine.

I have 2 of these 8L S3's i am going to one with the RS2 motor and a DQ500, and the other S3 with a S1 5 cylinder 10v with a DQ250.

what are your thoughts on this idea?

Sounds like a plan to me mate.

Do the dsg boxes bolt straight on?

How are you mounting the in the S3?

The S1 engine to the DQ250 is a straight bolt on.

The RS2 engine on the other hand is going to be a slight challenge, i am going to have to either make an adapter plate or weld and redrill the DQ500 gearbox.

And then there is the space issue.....................

The 5 cylinder engines are 90mm longer than a 4 cylinder, and 40kg heavier! DQ250 same weight as old 6 speed. DQ500 also 50kg more than old gearbox. Both gearboxes require that engines be transversely mounted.

I also have to change the management!!!!!! wondering if the VR5 has the same timing as the RS2 or S1.

Interesting!

I would of thought it should squeeze in, plenty of R32 conversions in 8L's and i'd imagine they're a similar size?

Those DQ500's are absolute units, but from what I've seen they're pretty bombproof.

Management wise I'd have thought you'd be far better off with a standalone. I've been using an Emerald ECU for over 15yrs, the product and customer service has been really good. They are happy to help with custom projects, it'll be able to control the Haldex (sending 50% of the power to the rear at a certain amount of revs/boost) and if you're not too far away you can have it setup/mapped by them at their HQ.

Are you planing to document the builds anywhere?

I am located in South Africa, so getting to the guys at emerald will be a little bit of a challenge, I am going standalone management, we going to use the ECUMASTER black edition, it does the dsg control through canbus.

I have no idea of how to document the build, so many people want to see how i am going to do it.

Ah cool, I've been watching some of the Speed and Sound features on youtube lately, the black FTF built MK1 Golf is incredible!

A Readers Rides thread on here would be great to follow and would get some heavy interest I would have thought

It would be a hell of a lot easier to fit the 2.5tfsi engine.

I am not a big fan of that publication, I dont fit in with their style.

I was talking to mate that has a youtube channel to assist, just waiting for an answer.

Might just do it myself

Please elaborate on your statement?

From what I have seen the engines are the same size.

It's already transverse, an S/RS2 motor is not.

MTM built an 8L S3 with a B5 RS4 drivetrain (in-line) years ago, but I think it was a bit "unresolved". Unsurprisingly it isn't something anyone else has bothered with.

The 2.5tfsi was designed to fit in that chassis so the vast majority of stuff will be plug and play.

Yeah a modern RS lump will be easier, and faster, but it’s not always about that imo

A YouTube series of the builds ups and downs would be ideal. Please link anything you put out, I’d love to see how you go about things..ATB!
