Higher Milage 1.2 Tsi
Discussion
Hi all,
I'm considering buying a 65 plate Fabia with the 110bhp 1.2 tsi engine. I've test driven it and it felt smooth, quiet, and had decent performance for a small engine. My only reservation is that the car has 85,000 miles on the clock, is this milage high enough to be risky on with this engines? Does anyone have any experience with higher milage 1.2 tsi's, and what I should look out for with them?
Also, I can't seem to find out a clear answer to whether this age 1.2 tsi is a timing chain or belt?
Many thanks, Matt.

Hello. I'd like to know the answer myself as its on my list as a replacement my Audi A3 Quattro.
A quick google search ( Wikipedia ) shows this to be a CHZC EA211 engine which is belt driven. If in doubt, maybe a quick visit / phone call to an VW / Audi Specialist or Skoda dealer might be the way forward? I should imagine as long as its service history has been maintained, and its MOT record is good, it should be ok.
I hope that helps.

A friend of mine has this engine in a 2016 A3 and is in the process of some expensive repairs due to piston rings cracking and bore scoring causing high oil consumption.
I also know someone with the older gen (pre 2013) 1.2 TSI and that snapped it's timing chain at 30k miles.. (but that engine probably isn't relevant to this discussion)
Personally I'd steer clear, especially at high mileage. One of the later engines with low mileage and that has been serviced religiously every 5k miles I'd probably take a gamble on. Remember a 2015 car is 8 years old, so unless you have a decent warranty, it's worth keeping some money aside for repairs.
