Hi all, I have an S1 with ABT tune which I've run on the original clutch for 12 months. The gear changes in and out of second (up and down) are now noticeably more notchy/crunchy - anyone any experience of this? I did think the clutch was on it's way out but other gear changes are still quite smooth. If it is the syncro I'm wondering if it's worth upgrading the clutch whilst the gearbox is out.
(car is 18 reg and has done around 45k)
Any ideas welcome! TIA

Can’t help but watching this thread with interest as an S1 owner who is considering the ABT tune myself.

I'd definitely recommend, I had mine lowered 30mm too and it's mega. Richter Sport in Milton Keynes did it for me and I'd recommend them too.

I think the simple answer is, poor technique when driving hard has worn the synchro - if the other gears, including 1st, are smooth enough I can't see how it's a clutch problem.

Of course the wear will be exacerbated by the higher power now it's tuned, what figures is it running?

Sorry, just my 2p on the matter, 2nd or 3rd gear synchro issues are a slam dunk of over-excited driving and forcing gear changes in too quickly...

Stick a new clutch kit in when the gearbox is out for peace of mind. It wont last forever at 300+ bhp so it would save paying twice for labour. Plus its upgraded for when you decide to go to stage 2.

It is accepted wisdom that S1s need an uprated clutch when you remap them. Sachs organic is the one that usually gets recommended.
