Hey all. I’m thinking of getting an S4 b8.5 and I’m interested to know if anyone out there has done the DSG Service themselves.

I would have access to a lift so that would make it easier, if anyone out there has done it or even used local garages I’d be interested to know your thoughts!

Thanks

I personally wouldn't bother, it might be more now, but last I checked a DSG service is a £260 fixed price thing. A genuine VAG service kit is about £200, plus you need the means and ability to use VDCS to do it properly as it requires you do have the transmission at a certain temp for the oil level.

You could get a cheaper non-VAG oil / filer kit and use an infrared temp gun, or some just don't bother, do it at ambient temp – but it’s a lot of risk for the sake of a couple of quid. Second-hand boxes start at about £1500 and refurbed are double that. Plus Labour.

Awesome. Thanks for the insight.

My dad is a HGV mechanic and has every tool imaginable so it’s not that I’m worried about.

I’ve seen kits for £150 which includes oil, gaskets, filters, new bolts etc.

I assume it would be worth asking around locally to see what they charge, as you’ve mentioned, for £300 it’s not worth the risk/worry

Check the service price with audi, I just had mine done on an rs3 and it was less than £200 at the main dealer, not worth the hassle to diy

Ah okay nice! Thank you. Was that just the oil and outer filter?
